Nepal Earthquake Appeal
Tear fund have launched an appeal to help those affected by the huge earthquake that has struck Nepal.
Tearfund write "The 7.9 magnitude quake, which was centred between the capital Kathmandu and Nepal's second largest city Pokhara, has brought down many buildings. Tearfund is treating it as ‘cross-border’ disaster for its impact in India also. So far hundreds of deaths have been reported.
‘The geography – the mountainous roads – mean supplies will require air-lifting in, generating a massive cost in helping remote communities,’ said Oenone Chadburn, Tearfund’s Head of Humanitarian Support.
‘We are preparing a response team for travel, and establishing contact with staff and partners in the country. Our work will see us go out of our way to find difficult and remote locations – as part of our call to follow Jesus to the places of very greatest need. However, this brings a whole set of challenges.’
Tearfund Disaster Risk Reduction work with partners in the affected area means that if their buildings are standing they will be responding.
